On the lines of the national capital Delhi, Chhattisgarh will soon start ‘Mohalla Clinics’ in 14 municipal corporations of the state. For this, 60 medical mobile units will be developed in the first phase.
Under the Chief Minister's City Slum Health Scheme, the medical unit teams will not only provide treatment and medical check-up of people in Mohallas (localities), especially in slum areas, but will also distribute medicines for free, an official press release said on Saturday.
A committee constituted to implement this scheme has recommended to provide Rs 55 crore for the health service.
At the meeting of the committee held on Saturday, chairman Chief Secretary R.P. Mandal told the Urban Administration Department to start this scheme at the earliest, the press release said.
The officials said the ‘Mohalla Clinic’ is to be implemented in the municipal corporation limits through the Urban Public Service Society constituted under the chairmanship of the District Collector.
Through the mobile medical unit, free pathology test, free of charge medicine distribution, referral based free ambulance and free radiology along with free medical consultation will be provided in slum areas.
