Girl dies in lightning while taking bath in Nuapada

Nuapada: A minor girl died when lightning struck her while she was bathing in a pond in Thongoromala village under Darlipada panchayat in Nuapada district on Wednesday. The victim Pramila Majhi (14) was taking bath along with family members and village women.

Moharana makes 1.3-cm Rath, breaks own record

Brahmapur: Sand artist Satya Moharana has broken his own record of making the smallest size of Lord Jagannath’s Nandighosh Rath. He has made a Rath of 1.3 cm height and 1.3 cm width in just four hours. The wooden Rath stands on 16 wheels and has figures of two parrots, Dadhinauti, Patitapaban Bana (flag). A micro size image of Lord Jagannath is seated in it. The Rath weighs 600 milligram. Earlier, he had made a 1.4-inch size Rath and attracted accolades from country and outside.    

Scribe donates Rs 51K to deceased colleague’s kin

Brahmapur:  While the family of late journalist Sukant Panigrahi is facing financial difficulties following his death due to cancer recently, ‘Nitidina’ scribe Chiranjeet Rajaguru and his wife Amrita Priyadarshani have come their support. The couple has kept a fixed deposit of Rs 51,000 in the name of Panigrahi’s lone daughter. They handed over the bond to Panigrahi’s wife Swagatika in the presence of journalists Jagan Mohan Mohapatra, Gopal Reddy, Sudeep Sahu, Prahallad Sahu, Amar Das, Dinesh Patnaik and Simanchal Sahu.

New Biriyani Centre distributes foods to poor

Brahmapur: BJD leader and New Biriyani Centre owner SK Khallil distributed cooked food and ration items to 60 physically-disabled, blind and distress people in Ward No-16 and nearby areas. The ration items included rice, dal, edible oil, biscuits, wheat power and nuts. Sayed Imtiaz, Imran Khan, Siba Ranjan Satapathy, Sayed Razak, SK Babu, Bibhuti Dash, Kanhu Rout and Satya Patro helped Khallil in distribution of foods.

Rs 10L insurance sum to deceased worker’s kin

Paradip: Under its personal accident package for workers entering in the restricted area with valid passes, the Paradip Port Trust handed over Rs 10 lakh to kin of a deceased worker on Wednesday. This was the first insurance claim settlement. PPT FA and CAO SK Sahu handed over a cheque of the amount to late Dushasan Pradhan’s wife Prabhasini Pradhan in presence of TM SK Mishra.

Majhi takes over as Ganjam DIPRO

Brahmapur: Fakir Mohan Majhi, OIS (JB), SD and IPRO, Bhanjanagar (Ganjam) has been directed by the Ganjam Collector to remain in charge of DIPRO, Ganjam with headquarters at Chhatrapur until further orders in addition to his present duties. He took over the charge of DIPRO on Monday.

Gopalpur Port staffs sing ‘Bande Utkala’

Ganjam: In response to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s appeal to the people of the State to sing ‘Bande Utkala Janani’, officers and staff of the Gopalpur Port sung the patriotic song by maintaining social distancing and other norms of the Covid-19 lockdown.

Fire breaks out in coir factory in Puri

Puri: A major fire broke out in a coir factory at Satasankha in Puri district late on Tuesday night. Properties worth lakhs of rupees were gutted in the mishap. Fire Services personnel rushed to the spot and doused the flames.
