Civil courts Latehar remain closed for 2nd day

Sunday, 05 July 2020 | PNS | DALTONGANJ

Civil courts Latehar remained closed for second consecutive day on Saturday in the wake of an ASI of police who had visited the civil courts when he ought to have been doing institutional quarantine then.

Principal district & sessions judge (PDJ) Latehar V K Sahay said, “Under order of the Jharkhand High Court Ranchi civil courts Latehar remained shut for two days beginning Friday July 3.Sahay further said, “It was intimated to our SDJM on July 2 that one ASI of police who was asymptomatic but was mandated to undergo isolation in the police line Latehar had allegedly skipped this isolation and went roaming around and even visited our courts too on June 24,25 and 26 as per information available so far.”

As this was a breach of health protocol by an ASI the matter was duly communicated to officials of the Jharkhand High Court Ranchi, which taking urgent cognizance of it ordered us to shut down the civil courts for two days July 3 and 4 and it was done, added Sahay. “This was a precautionary measure and in the larger interest of safety of health of all officials of the civil courts officials, judicial officers, judges, clients, advocates and others too” said the PDJ adding, “As this ASI had visited court room of SDJM the SDJM and the staff have been put under home isolation and all are doing well and fine there.”

Sources said the ASI had visited civil courts on June 24,25 and 26 but the shut down came on July 3 and 4 just to leave no one in any worry or anxiety over this prowling of the asymptomatic ASI whose test report is awaited.

PDJ Sahay said a team of health workers are out sanitizing civil courts and every nook and corner of it has been well fumigated too.

“ I and my battery of judges, judicial officers are working from home attending urgent court matters and we believe in a challenging time like this our learned advocates and sensible clients do understand the delicacy of the situation” said Sahay.

SP Latehar Prashant Anand too said this ASI of police who is posted in Barwadeeh police station had returned from leave and as all returnees from leave are to undergo isolation set up in police line Latehar the ASI too was to undergo this but he skipped and went moving round and even reached civil courts. Anand said the ASI ought to have shown wisdom and concern for his own health and others too besides he was duty bound to follow health protocol which calls for mandatory quarantine/ isolation on coming from leave or from outside the district but this ASI flouted the health safety measures.
