The ‘Clean Village and Green Village’ campaign run by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports was launched on Monday in Nuapada district by NYK, Nuapada, on the eve of Syama Prasad Mookerjee's birthday.
The inaugural event at Lakhna village of Komna block was organised by NYK in association with Radha Krishna Youth Club in the presence of Kalahandi MP Basant Panda as chief speaker.
"The youths should spontaneously come forward for protection of environment, it would contribute hugely to the ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’, a dream project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi" said the MP.
Members of the Youth Club and villagers planted hundreds of tree saplings on road sides and in the high school campus.
"This campaign will continue for next two months and we will try to take it to every nook and corner of the district," said NYK district coordinator Asish Thakur.
He informed that the NYK has taken up several activities and competitions under Youth for Nature campaign to attract the youths for their involvement in nature conservation. National volunteers, Tikeswar Hans, Sangram Keshari Singh, Tekaram Pande and Rinku Hans and Bhagatram Sabar were present.
