CM announces Rs 1,000 each for Anganwadi & Asha workers, free travel for women in UTC buses

Greeting people of Uttarakhand on the occasion of Rakshabandhan, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat announced that Rs 1,000 would be credited into the accounts of each Anganwadi and Asha worker in the State. This will benefit about 50,000 Anganwadi and Asha workers. Further, women will be allowed free travel in Uttarakhand roadways buses on Monday.

On the directions of the CM, Rs 1,000 each was transferred to the accounts of Anganwadi and Asha workers in the past also to honour them. On the occasion of Rakshabandhan, the CM announced an additional Rs 1,000 each for the Anganwadi and Asha workers.

Rawat said, “Due to Covid-19, we will not be able to gather on occasion of Rakshabandhan this time. We are not able to celebrate our festivals together.  In these circumstances too thousands of Anganwadi and Asha workers are facing risks working on the frontline in the struggle against Covid. My best wishes to all such sisters of mine, may they remain healthy as only then will they be able to take care of the health of others.”

The CM further said that in the past years, a large number of women used to come to the CM residence to tie him Rakhis but the situation is different this time due to the Covid pandemic. Stating that he had received several Rakhis, he thanked them and wished them well. Rawat further said that on the occasion of Rakshabandhan women will be allowed to travel free in buses of Uttarakhand Transport Corporation. Apart from this the state government will soon bring a sanitary napkin scheme for girls, he said.
