Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday stressed the need for revival of Police Awas Nigam, a prestigious wing of the Uttar Pradesh Police.
The wing having a DG-rank officer was engaged with the construction projects of the UPP but during the last one decade, it went into deep financial crunch as it was ignored by the department as well as the government and all major construction projects of the Police department were given to other construction agencies of the government.
However, in the last two years, the government sanctioned works related to the department to the Police Awas Nigam, finally reversing the trend, and this year, the Police Awas Nigam started to show profit.
The Police Awas Nigam has its construction offices in Lucknow, Meerut, Agra, Kanpur Nagar, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Gorakhpur and Gonda.
Reviewing the meeting of the officials of the UP Police Awas Nigam here on Friday, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Kumar Awasthi directed the officials to expedite the ongoing projects and complete them within the stipulated time while maintaining high standard of work.
He said on the directions of the chief minister, proper financial support was being given to the Police Awas Nigam so that it did not face any problems in completing the projects within time.
ADG Hariram Sharma, who is presently heading the Police Awas Nigam, disclosed that the corporation was facing financial losses of Rs 11 crore in 2017-18 which was cut to Rs 8 crore in the financial year 2018-19 and in the current financial year, the Police Awas Nigam had shown tremendous progress and till August, it had earned a profit of Rs 1 crore. He hoped that the profit would further increase by the end of the financial year in March 2021.
Sharma disclosed that on government’s initiative, the corporation was engaged in 155 projects which included construction of 29 fire stations, 17 police station buildings, seven police outposts, barracks for females personnel in 44 reserve police lines, multi-storey buildings in 44 reserve police lines etc.
For these 155 projects, the government has sanctioned the budget of Rs 1,00,647 lakh out of which Rs 7,105 lakh has already been released and exhausted.
