CM to lay foundation stone of Horticulture University

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel will lay the foundation stone of the Mahatma Gandhi Horticulture and Forestry University at Sankara-Patan on October 2 on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti along with a series of developmental works in Durg and Bhilai city.

The 39 developmental works are valued at Rs 253.61 crores, an official press release said on Thursday.

The Chhattisgarh government has passed a bill to set up the first Horticulture and Forestry University in the state named after Mahatma Gandhi. Different Horticulture Colleges will also be opened in districts.

According to the statement, the lone Horticulture varsity will be constructed at a cost of Rs 55 crore. Each academic year around 600 graduates, 100 post graduates and 50 PhD students will get admission.

It is hoped that the university will pave the way for development of horticulture crops in the state.

The Chief Minister will dedicate 44 residential quarters for government officer-employees at block headquarters, preside over ground breaking ceremony to construct bridges on the Kharun river and dedicate the Solar-Charkha Training Centre in village Selud.

Baghel will dedicate and carry out ground breaking ceremony for development works in Durg city. These include beautification works of different roads, deepening of Tagda reservoir, construction of a four-lane road, a shed construction, a filter plant and more.

Similarly, in Bhilai, a statue of Mahatma Gandhi will be unveiled. Foundation stone for 28 works will also be laid, the release said.
