Cong dented further in MP as its Bada Malhera MLA joins BJP

Monday, 13 July 2020 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

Yet another Congress MLA from Bada Malhera constituency Pradyuman Singh Lodhi resigned from MP Assembly on Sunday and later joined the BJP in Bhopal. Congress party in Madhya Pradesh which had been depleted following mass exodus of 22 MLAs in March this year, was dented further.

Protem speaker Rameshwar Sharma accepted the resignation and accordingly the MP Assembly secretariat issued an order that a seat has gone vacant following the resignation of Lodhi. With this, the State now will face 25 by-polls.

When asked as to why he left Congress and his membership to Assembly, Lodhi told media persons that it was all because of development of Bundelkhand which he hopes will take place under Uma Bharti and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Bharti is believed to be instrumental in bringing Lodhi (his fellow caste men) from Congress to BJP ahead of by-polls. Lodhi had defeated former BJP Minister Lalita Yadav in 2018 Assembly polls.

Saying that his constituency is among the most backward areas in Bundelkhand which had seen displacement of around 20,000 locals in search of work. I am trying for an irrigation project for my area which can transform the entire constituency, he added asked about the reason for his departure from Congress party.

Asked whether he has been promised a ministerial berth, Lodhi smiled and said it is all discretion of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

BJP spokesperson Surendra Sharma said Congress party is a party based on some individuals and when it loses power in New Delhi, it tends to disintegrate in States.
