Friday, 30 October 2020 | PNS | Dehradun

Demanding resignation of chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat in the Jharkhand bribery case, the Uttarakhand unit of Congress party organised a march towards the Raj Bhawan on Thursday. The Congress leaders and workers assembled at the state headquarter of the party located at busy Rajpur road and started the march towards Raj Bhawan. The party leaders claim that they had requested the Governor Baby Rani Maurya to give them time so that a delegation of Congress leaders could meet her but no time was given by her office. The party in order to hammer home its demand of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry in the case and immediate dismissal of CM Trivendra Singh Rawat, organised the march towards Raj Bhawan.

The march was led by the in-charge of Uttarakhand Congress Devendra Yadav who is on a three day visit to the state, the general secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC) and former chief minister Harish Rawat and Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Pritam Singh. The slogan shouting workers of the Congress party were stopped by the police personnel near Hathibadkala. At the barricades erected by the police heated arguments were witnessed between Congress leaders and the officers of administration and police. Denied forward march the Congress workers started a vehement slogan shouting against the government.

The Congress leaders were later detained by the police and taken to police lines before being released later.

Speaking on the occasion, the in charge of the state unit of the party, Devendra Yadav said that the mask over the zero tolerance on corruption claim of the Trivendra Singh Rawat government has been removed. The former CM Harish Rawat said that the CM Rawat should resign from his post without delay. The PCC president Pritam Singh also demanded resignation of CM Rawat.

The Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the state assembly Indira Hridayesh, co- in charge of Uttarakhand Rajesh Dharmani, secretary of AICC, Qazi Nizamuddin and other Congress leaders also took part in the agitation.
