Cong pays tributes to Rajiv Gandhi on death anniversary

Glowing tributes were paid by the Congress leaders and workers to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 29th death anniversary on Thursday. The Congress leaders assembled at the Rajiv Bhawan here on the day to pay homage to Gandhi. The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president, Pritam Singh led the Congressmen in garlanding the bust of former Prime Minister. Speaking on the occasion, Pritam Singh said that Rajiv Gandhi was father of the information revolution in India. He also remembered the stellar role played by the former PM in strengthening the Panchayats and giving voting rights to youth. Singh said that during the tenure of Gandhi as PM, 73rd and 74th constitutional amendments were brought to make the Panchayats more powerful.

 Terming the late PM as the architect of modern India, the PCC president said that he strived hard to put India in the league of the powerful and developed countries of the world and was successful in this endeavour. “It is the result of Rajiv Gandhi’s efforts that the world today is witnessing rise of India as one of the superpowers. His untiring efforts ensured that today women are playing a major role in development of the country,’ he said.

On the occasion, the PCC president provided financial help to families of poor labourers. Former PCC president Kishore Upadhyaya, general secretary, organisation, Vijay Saraswat, vice president Surya Kant Dhasmana , Aryendra Sharma, Manish Khanduri and other Congress leaders were present on the occasion.
