Cong provides details of buses to UP govt

Tuesday, 19 May 2020 | PNS | Lucknow

With Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s office entering into a twitter war with Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra over facilitating transport to migrants, UP Congress president Ajay Kumar ‘Lallu’ on Monday claimed to have handed over a list of buses the party had provided on the borders to ferry the migrant workers.

On Sunday, Yogi Adityanath had slammed the Congress for doing politics over migrant workers and had said that though the party had offered to provide 1,000 buses, it did not give the list of the buses and their registration numbers and other details.

Yogi Adityanath had thereafter rejected the Congress offer, saying that the UP government was doing everything for the migrants.

Priyanka had offered 1,000 buses to ferry the migrants soon after the Auraiya incident and on Sunday, Congress loaded photographs showing that 500 buses were waiting at Rajasthan-UP border for clearance from the UP government to ferry the migrants.

Addressing media persons here on Monday afternoon, the UPCC president said the party had handed over the details of the 1,000 buses to the state government.

He told reporters that the party was doing everything for migrants and till date it had provided food packets to 60 lakh people by running 22 community kitchens in several districts.

“We have also put up food and water stalls at the border of the state to provide help to the migrants coming from other states,” he added.

Lallu, however, slammed the Yogi government for its laxity in providing relief to the migrants who assembled in large numbers on the state border.

“Congress has made several offers like paying for all migrants passengers coming by Shramik Specials after the Railways charged fare from the poor people and to provide buses so that they can be sent home safely,” Lallu pointed out, saying that the Bharatiya Janata Party government had ignored all such requests and now it had finally reacted on Monday, asking the Congress to provide details of buses. “Unnecessary delay has already been made by the Yogi Adityanath government but I hope that now, with the details of buses with them, they would respond positively and extend immediate relief to stranded migrants workers by ferrying them safely to their home,” the UPCC chief added.
