Corona robbed Odisha of many sons of soil

Saturday, 19 September 2020 | KRUSHNA KUMAR MISHRA | DHENKANAL

Many veteran artists like Bijay Mohanty, Ajit Dash, Sarada Prasanna Nayak, Nadia Bihari Mohanty have died, mostly due to Corona.

Besides, many Government officials, doctors, businessmen, senior citizens, teachers, ASHAs, health workers and Sarpanchs, those were working as the in-charge of TMCs, Covid care centres and Covid hospitals have faced untimely death.

Many senior citizens are now told to remain in their houses like house arrest for no crime or fault. Small vendors, makeshift shops, salons, betel shops, gymnasiums, cinema hall owners were ordered to close their operations. The students are now passing through uncertainty due to long day closure of schools and colleges. D

evotees lost their mental peace as they were not allowed to enter any temple premises.

It is known to all that, all these unpleasant situations emerged as the authorities failed to check the Corona infection.

Now many intellectuals are asking the State Government, why such a situation was allowed to emerge, when Odisha was one of the safest places till March.

However, everyone knows it that all the hell broke loose when the migrant workers were brought back to Odisha from highly infected States.

Many now question why these prodigal sons were allowed to enter Odisha instead of making arrangement of their treatment at their working places. Why the State Government has not implemented the Ayushman yojana in the State, which could have proved beneficial for the migrants? Why Prime Minister did not order the BJP ruled State Governments to take care of the migrants labours?Where as 8 lakh migrant labourers came back to Odisha, there were no sincere plans to rehabilitate them and provide them jobs. Our State is still in short of agricultural labourers, construction workers, carpenters and domestic helps.

These migrants prefer to work in other States while they hesitate to work in their own State. If they have no contribution in building Odisha, why we should sympathise them like our sons?
