Covid-19 cases shoot up to 146

In a highest ever single day jump in the number of novel Coronavirus (Covid-19)  cases in Uttarakhand, the state health department reported 24 new  cases of the disease on Thursday. The spike rallied the tally of Covid-19 to 146 in the State.

 In Tehri district, five patients of the disease were reported while four cases each surfaced in Dehradun and Bageshwar districts. In Nainital and Uttarkashi districts three cases each were reported while two patients each were reported from Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar districts. One patient was found in Almora district.

In Tehri, five males, ( 37, 23, 38,24 and 22 years) were reported positive by the lab of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rishikesh. Incidentally all the five have recently returned from Mumbai.

All of them were admitted to the AIIMS, Rishikesh. In Dehradun, a 45 year old female who had come into contact with a positive patient who had traveled from Mumbai was reported positive. Similarly a 20 year old male of Vikasnagar, who had recently returned from Mumbai, was also found infected. A 55 year old woman, a resident of Bijnore in UP and admitted in the AIIMS Rishikesh from May 21 was found infected on the day. A 34 year old male of Dehradun was reported positive by a private lab on Thursday. Incidentally this patient is son of an assistant of vegetable broker of Niranjanpur Sabji Mandi of Dehradun had no travel history. 

 In Bageshwar, three out of four patients reported today have travelled from NCR of India. In Nainital, a 19 year old male of Ramnagar who recently returned from Hyderabad was found infected. On the day, a 60 year old male and 24 year old male were also found positive for the disease. Two patients of the disease, a 21 year old male and 20 year old female of Roorkee in Haridwar, who had returned from Maharashtra and Delhi were found infected.

On the day, one patient from Uttarkashi district was discharged after his recovery from the disease. The additional secretary, state health department, Yugal Kishore Pant said reports of 979 samples were found negative for the disease on Thursday while 24 were found positive. He added that reports of 1612 samples are still awaited by the department. On Thursday, a total of 887 samples were collected for COVID -19 testing.  The authorities have so far taken swab samples of 16528 suspected patients for COVID-19 test.

The state now has 91 active cases in the state with Udham Singh Nagar district at top of the table with 24 active cases while Dehradun is close second with 21 cases. Nainital has 18 active cases while Tehri has 11 active cases. Uttarkashi and Bageshwar districts have six active cases each while Pauri, Almora and Haridwar have three active cases. Almora and Bageshwar districts have two active cases while Chamoli has one active case.

The recovery rate which was modest 67 per cent in the state has now dropped to 36.98 per cent.
