As an average of at least 50 new cases are being added to the existing Covid-19 cases every day in the State, the Government estimates that the number of the State’s corona cases would rise to 10,000 by the end of June.
This was revealed by Health and family Welfare Department Spokesperson Dr Jayant Panda as the total corona cases have crossed the 1,100 mark.
Dr Panda said the increase in the Covid-19 cases was anticipated in view of the return of migrants from several hotspot States.
“There is nothing to panic despite the spurt in Covid-19 cases. This is because a majority of the cases are reported from quarantine centres and containment zones; and patients are being isolated after tests and it is not a sign of stage III,” he said.
In a way, Dr Panda said, the rise in the corona cases is beneficial as it would help herd immunity towards the virus in the community. For herd immunity, two-thirds of people in a locality or area need to be exposed which is going to happen. The number of Covid-19 cases is likely to cross 10,000 by June-end, he said.
Dr Panda said the people having co-morbidity and hypertension are dying. Deaths due to Covid-19 are not a concern at present as the mortality rate is 0.46 per cent in the State against the national average of 3.1 per cent.
Health experts now suggest people to learn to live with the coronavirus as it would remain in the community like any other disease. However, one has to maintain proper hand hygiene, wear masks and observe social distancing.
