The number of COVID-19 positive cases crossed 3000 as over 100 fresh cases were reported in the city on Wednesday. The city also witnessed four more deaths taking the final toll figures at Tata Main Hospital (TMH) to around 90.
Meanwhile, the death of a 48-year-old businessman Sarabjit Singh Rinku spread like a wildfire in the city this morning. Singh, who was owner of Dupatta Sagar in Bistupur was a well-known trader. He was tested positive on August 6 and was admitted at TMH on August 7. He was facing difficulty in breathing.
Following his death, the Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Jamshedpur Chamber of Commerce reiterated their demand for a complete lockdown. “ It is high time that the State Government take immediate steps to ensure complete lockdown. In view of spreading cases of coronavirus and deaths the Government must impose curfew across the state till August 21,” said Mohanlal Agarwal, president , Jamshedpur Chamber of Commerce.
The Deputy Commissioner, East Singhbhum, Suraj Kumar has also ordered strict compliance of social distancing in passenger vehicles in view of COVID-19. As per the directives, strict action will be taken against those not wearing masks and those vehicles taking more passengers than the prescribed.
The Deputy Commissioner has said instructions have been given by the Transport Department, Government of Jharkhand through various letters to strictly follow the departmental directives.
Wearing helmets and masks have been made compulsory for two-wheeler drivers under which the State Government on violation of Section 194. The provision of penalty is Rs 1000.
Provision has been made in respect of permission to hire taxis outside the Containment Zone, inside the district and other districts of the state, which are as follows: In the category of taxi commercial vehicle, only the registration certificate will be considered as their route pass, they will not need to take separate pass.
Spray sanitizer will have to be kept in the taxi and seats will have to be sanitized before each time a new passenger sits.
The Kolhan Division, which was under green zone, came under the coronavirus map with two persons testing positive at Chakulia, under East Singhbhum district on May 12. However, with the arrival of migrants the figure has reached 500 mark and now it has crossed 3000.
Most of the patients do not have travel history. Several other persons tested positive have travel history from Maharashtra, Delhi, Gurugram and Chennai.
They had arrived in the city and were staying in quarantine centres in different parts.
