Deities’ ‘Surya’, ‘Chandra’ stolen

Sunday, 29 November 2020 | PNS | PURI

Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Chief Administrator Krishan Kumar on Saturday said a probe would be launched into the alleged stealing of ‘Surya’ and ‘Chandra’ ornaments of the deities.

After the Nagarjuna Besha of the lords on Friday, the ornaments were brought to the SJTA custody.

As per a decision taken by the temple administration, the Besha ornaments will be kept at a proposed museum in the premises of Jagannath Ballav Mutt.

However, the stealing of Surya and Chandra of the deities allegedly by a servitor raised questions about the security in the premises of the Jagannath Temple.

Notably, the Nagarjuna Besha of the deities had been held after a delay of about three hours which pointed fingers to the temple mismanagement.
