Denizens applaud ‘Pareeksha’ — movie shot in Ranchi

Saturday, 08 August 2020 | Divya Modi | Ranchi

Dealing with the topic of education, the movie Pareeksha- The Final Test portrays the story of a rickshaw puller who strives to provide his son with the same opportunities as those given to children from elite families. The film which released on Zee5 on August 6 has got Ranchiites super excited to not just see parts of the City where a major part of it was shot but also has local artists performing key roles in it.

Ranchi boy Rohit Pandey and Manoj Kumar from Silli can be sharing the screen with veteran actor Adil Hussain. Priyanka Bose and Sanjay Suri also play vital roles in it.

Ever since the release date was announced, residents across all age groups in Ranchi have been eagerly waiting to see it. The movie shows Ashok Naagar, Sapphire School, Kadru and also parts of Ranchi Club.

“The film was very nice and it was very exciting to see our people performing in it. The best part of the movie is the story as now- a- days content is key. Lots of movies have been shot in Ranchi but we never get to see people belonging from the City portraying a character which was not the case here. It is great to see artists from the local theatre groups performing in the film. The locations have been picturised very well. The local artists were also treated very well and at par with those from Mumbai. The movie highlights the gap between government and private schools and it has been raised at the right time,” said Himanshu Kumar, who is pursuing his Masters in Journalism from Ranchi University.

“I enjoyed the movie more because it has actors from Jharkhand performing. It is great to see people from our region playing roles with renowned actors.  The local artists have performed brilliantly and there is no over acting on any one’s part. The film also deals with a very important topic. Every parent feels that if they do not send their child to a private school, they will not be able to do well in life. It shows the actual situation of a government school and it will hopefully play a vital role in improving it,” said Vikash Aryan, a City based short film maker.

“The movie by Prakash Jha sets light on a very relevant social issue that is the education system in our country and the gap between education in a government school versus a private one. How low income families aspire and work hard to get the education for their children and get trapped into the business of private education, the struggle to get their children admitted into a private school and further face challenges to continue it. It also shows the psychological impact of a child from a slum as against his peers from affluent backgrounds” said Satyam Ojha, a Rural Management student at XISS, Ranchi.

“The movie Pareeksha very well portrays the hardships that people of our country belonging to the lower income group face when they want to educate their children in a good institution. It also highlights the class divide. Elementary education is our constitutional right for children between 6-14 years of age. With education being turned into a business, the condition can only improve if the government schools provide the required infrastructure, education and environment to the children. The feeling of fraternity and secularism should be practiced and not only preached,” said Aiuahi Singh, a student.
