The Odisha police on Wednesday said they wouldn’t tolerate any misbehaviour or attacks on doctors and health workers, who are at the forefront of the fight against coronavirus.
“Few instances of misbehaviour , manhandling of doctors and health workers have come to the notice of the State Police Headquarters. The role of doctors and health workers is very important in fight against coronavirus. They are in fact the first line fighters in this war against COVID-19. Their safety and security in the field is the priority of the Odisha police, an official release said.
Considering the gravity of the situation, DGP Abhay has advised all Superintendents of Police and DCPs of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack to ensure safety and security of doctors and other health workers.
They have been instructed to take strong legal action against persons, who are involved in assaulting, misbehaving and manhandling of doctors, health workers and other medical staff on duty.
They have also been advised to take up prompt investigation on the matter after registering FIR against the culprits.
It has been decided to appoint a DSP or above ranked officer to supervise the case and submit the charge-sheet and final form within a month.
