DM asked to make regular inspection of quarantine centres

Uttar Pradesh government has directed all district magistrates to make regular inspections of quarantine centres and isolation wards set up by the government.

Chief Secretary RK Tiwari, in a circular issued on Monday, directed the district officials to ensure availability of quality food and implementation of social distancing protocol.

The government directed doctors and paramedical staff of Covid hospitals to daily make rounds of the wards and ensure proper care of the patients. The government also directed hospital administrations to take special care in maintaining sanitation, providing quality food to the patients and changing bed sheets daily.

The chief secretary also directed the district magistrates and chief medical officers to be in constant touch with the COVID-19 patients and obtain their feedback.

In the circular issued to all district magistrates, the chief secretary asked them to post a nodal officer at PDS shops for proper distribution of food grains to ration card holders. He said teachers of village primary schools, village panchayat secretary and staff from the block development office could also be posted as nodal officers.

The chief secretary also directed the officers to check short weighing at the PDS shops and ensure that all PDS shop had POS (point of sale) machine.

Meanwhile, so far, the daily sample testing in UP stands at 10,000 and it is targeted to the ramped up to 15,000 by June 15 and to 20,000 by the month-end.

The state has also expanded the Covid beds count to 1,00,000 to deal with any eventuality. These beds have been arranged in Level-1, Level-2 and Level-3 Covid hospitals, although the government has estimated that going by the current rate of infection, UP will not need such large provisioning for COVID-19 patients and coronavirus suspects.
