DNA tests are common to settle parental disputes among humans but it is a three-year-old Labrador breed dog who is undergoing this test in Hoshangabad. The samples have been sent to Hyderabad lab.
The ownership dispute of this dog has remained talk of the town with the police being clueless about how to ascertain the ownership of the canine.
After a probe failed to settle the feud between two youths, the police have decided to put the dog under a DNA test.
Shadab Khan, a journalist by profession and Kratik Shivhare, an activist of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad are engaged in the ownership feud. Shadab is terming that the dog is his missing pet tiger ‘coco’ while Shivhare claimed it was his pet ‘Tiger’.
After registering a complaint with the police in August about his missing pet, Shadab had found his dog with Shivhare who had refused to hand it over saying it was his dog.According to Shadab, he brought the dog from a Pachmarhi in year 2017 while Shivhare says he had sourced the pet from a breeder based in Piparia.
Not succeeding in finding the rightful owner of the dog, the police collected blood samples of the dog on Saturday and is planning to send it to Hydebrabad by air for DNA test. Samples of dog’s biological parents has also been taken from Pachmarhi by the police accompanied by veterinary experts on Saturday.
Dispute had escalated after the police had taken the dog from Shadab and handed it over to Kratik till the matter was settled. Kratik had claimed that he had the dog with him for several months and recently some policemen came with some persons and took the pet away from his home.
The test is to incur Rs 30,000 and Shadab told the media he was ready to bear the expenses to get his loving dog back. Kratik however said it’s his dog and the test will confirm this.
