The Economic Offence Wing registered two cases in corruption case in Balaram pond construction scheme in Dewas district in which the officers and employees of the Agriculture Department, District Dewas colluded to obtain Rs 2.92 crore for the period 2011 to 2015.
Superintendent of Police Dilip Soni of Economic Crime Cell Unit Ujjain said that on primary physical verification, a total of 361 Balaram ponds were not found to be constructed in the development block of Kokhurd, Sonkach and Vikas block in Dewas district, while the grant money of the said 361 ponds was disbursed to the beneficiaries.
Balram Talab Yojana was started in the year 2010 by the Government of Madhya Pradesh for irrigation system and rainwater harvesting in the interest of small and marginal farmers. Under the Balaram Talab scheme, construction of 2037 Balaram ponds was approved between 2011 and 2015 in Dewas district.
During the construction of Balaram pond, the District Collector Dewas was ordered by the then Under Secretary General Administration Department to investigate the irregularities in the construction of Balaram ponds, when there was a complaint at the government level.
A total of 361 ponds could not be built on the spot on physical verification of the Balaram ponds constructed in the district of Dewas which was found by District Collector Dewas.
A case under section 21 (1) (a), 13 (2), 7 (c) of Section 409,420,467,468,471,120-B of the Indian Penal Code and Prevention of Corruption Act against the concerned officers and employees was registered.
