Epidemic Diseases Act extended for 4 months

The Uttar Pradesh government, in view of the COVID-19 situation, has extended the stringent provisions of the amended Epidemic Diseases Act for another four months, till March 31, 2021.

The UP government has issued the required notification for it as the present order was lapsing on November 30, said Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Amit Mohan Prasad here on Saturday. 

He said that restrictions would continue till March 31, 2021 and the violators would be punished under the various provisions of the amended Epidemic Diseases Act.

Meanwhile, there are 25,243 COVID-19 patients in the state on Saturday with around 2,200 fresh coronavirus positive cases being detected during the past 24 hours.

The recovery rate in UP stood at around 94 percent with 5,06,938 COVID-19 patients recovering in the state so far while the death toll reached 7,718 with case fatality rate at 1.43 percent.

On Friday, 1,74,904 Covid samples were tested in the state. With this, the total number of Covid tests conducted in UP reached the 1,89,94,692-mark.

Among the active cases in he state, 12,293 are in home isolation, 2,253 in private hospitals and the rest in government-run Covid hospitals.

Around 4.68 lakh surveillance teams in the state have visited 2.95 crore houses and have checked the health of 14.44 crore people so far.
