Farmers Delhi Chalo protest on Nov 26-27

Tuesday, 24 November 2020 | Monika Malik | Chandigarh

Our fight is on; join in huge numbers — that’s the appeal the farmers, protesting against the Centre’s agriculture laws across India, made on Monday, while clarifying that there was no change in the ‘Delhi Chalo’ call for November 26-27.

At the same time, the farmers’ Delhi Chalo’ programme has garnered support from a cross-section of society with not just the political parties and leaders, but the social activists, singers, actors, film makers, and even common man too coming forward to be part of the “indefinite” agitation.

The All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC) — a pan-Indian umbrella organization comprising 250 farmers’ organizations — issued a clarification making it clear to the farmers from across the country that the combined ‘Delhi Chalo’ program, from November 26 onwards, “will be held as planned and no changes in the program has been done”.

The clarification follows unsubstantiated reports that the farmers had called off the ‘Delhi Chalo’ andolan, after the initial suspension of rail roko agitation by the farmers. Notably, Punjab’s 30, out of total 31, farmers’ bodies on Saturday agreed to suspend their protest for 15 days, and allow movement of passenger trains in Punjab.

Appealing the farmers not to be misled by any misinformation or distorted efforts, the AIKSCC stated that as the collective resolve of farmers from across India demanding repealing the “anti-farmer” and “anti-people” laws has become a headache for the Central Government, “it would use various agencies under its control, like the Delhi Police, to thwart our peaceful and democratic agitation program”.

“All the federations and organizations involved in the program, including AIKSC, are working hard to ensure the success of the Delhi Chalo Andolan program,” said a statement issued by the working group of AIKSCC.

Bharti Kisan Union (BKU), Rajewal, president Balbir Singh Rajewal, who is also the member of all india level committee, also appealed the farmers and “well wishers” to “come out on roads” on November 26.

“All farmers and their well wishers must come on roads on 26th Nov to protest against black laws and join jap (recitation) of satnam vahiguru to shake atma (soul) of BJP leadership. Come on nearby roads. Thanks all,” tweeted Rajewal.

Notably, the farmers have already warned that they will block all roads to Delhi if authorities stop them during their march on November 26 and 27.

As per the plan, the farmers from across the country are scheduled to reach the national capital on Thursday via five highways as part of their ‘Delhi Chalo’ march.

The farmers’ unions have declared that they will sit on dharna (sit-in) wherever they will be stopped on their march towards Delhi.

“Lakhs of farmers, their family members, would start moving towards Delhi on tractors and trolleys and reach there on November 26-27. They have made full preparations for the same right from dry ration, tents, beddings, woolens,” said Rajewal.

As the farmers are protesting on roads, outside malls, toll plazas, their friends and family members are mobilizing the people across villages, by conducting nukkad nataks, prabhat pheris in the morning, mashal marches at night.

“We don’t know how long this agitation will go on…we are fully prepared for every situation.

We can sit out in open in winters, we can sleep on road,” said Bhartiya Kisan Union-Ekta (Dakonda) general secretary Jagmohan Singh Patiala, adding that the farmers would lay siege to Delhi.

Notably, the Arvind Kejriwal-led Government in Delhi has denied permission to farmers to stage any rally at either the Ram Leela Ground or at Jantar Mantar. The farmers have maintained that they will undertake the march, saying that “it is a matter of our very existence”.

The All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee, Rashtriya Kisan Mahasangh and various factions of Bharatiya Kisan Union have formed a “Samyukta Kisan Morcha’’ to pressurize the central government to scrap the three farm laws.

SINGERS, ACTORS, SOCIAL ACTIVISTS, FILM MAKERS TO JOIN ANDOLAN

Lending voice to the farmers protest since over a month now, Punjab’s actors, singers, social activists, film makers and various political parties have declared their support to the farmers ‘Delhi Chalo’ andolan while announcing to join the same.

A gangster-turned-social activist Lakha Sidhana, singer Kanwar Grewal, singer Harf Cheema, singer Jagdeep Randhawa, film producer Darshan Aulakh, among others on Monday come together to declare that they would join the protesting farmers in their march towards Delhi, and may even stay for indefinite period during their protest.

“We have been mobilizing people moving from village to village as people listen to whet singers-actors and those known have to say.

We are participating in farmer agitation for more than a month now, even many of us have not gone to their homes,” said Sidhana.
