In a bid to improve awareness among people about nutritious food, following the instruction of Consumer Affairs, Foods and Public Distribution Department, Government of India, National Nutrition Month is being celebrated from September, 1 to September 30 at regional office of Jharkhand Food Corporation of India (FCI).
Regional Office of FCI is organising various programmes like assay writing, painting competition and debates to mark the months.
Under the leadership of Jharkhand FCI, General Manager, Shekh Kamal Saheb the Nutrition Plantation and Gardening programme was organised at PEG Office at Nagari and PEG Office at Khunti. On this occasion Deputy General Manager (Area 1), Suresh Minj and Deputy General Manager (Area 2), Sanjay Kumar Choudhary, Deputy General Manager (Technical), J Ramanna, Manager, Sudhir Kumar Singh and Public Relation Officer, Sanjay Tigga were present along with other staff of FCI.
Under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojna (PMGKAY), FCI is distributing free foodgrains from April to November among needy and poor of the State. Under this programme FCI distributed 7,50,000 MT Rice and 80,000 MT Wheat in Jharkhand April 2020 and September 2020. Under this programme foodgrains of worth Rs 3, 000 crore have been distributed.
The Government of India in its fight against COVID-19 pandemic has been providing food grains to the State Government free of cost under the NFSA, PMGKY, OMSS (D) and other welfare schemes to the poor people having valid ration cards which is double to regular supply to the State Government.
Apart from it to provide foodgrains to migrant labourers and weaker sections FCI is increasing nongovernmental organisation and charitable trust to buy food grains at Rs 21to Rs 22 through which the foodgrains supply could be ensured for that section. In order to ensure it the charitable trusts and nongovernmental organisations have also received sufficient food grains.
Paddy procurement has been ensured for registered farmers through e-uparjan software under transparent way.
