Fitness enthusiasts opt for online workout sessions

Thursday, 07 May 2020 | Divya Modi | Ranchi

In order to put a pause to the spread of Coronavirus, gyms, health clubs and fitness centres will remain shut till May 17. To continue with their daily exercise routine during the lockdown period, health freaks across Ranchi have either taken to home workout sessions by following celebrities and renowned fitness instructors on popular social media platforms or have opted for virtual fitness classes.

While staying cooped up at home can cause numerous health issues, enthusiasts are keen to make the most of this lockdown period and come out of it healthier and fitter. With Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently sharing a video doing yoga, motivation amongst Ranchiites is also high to focus on their health while staying at home.

City based gym cum fitness centre Health Freaks has been sharing exercise videos to address a particular problem and it is also catering to an individual clients requirements to help them remain fit. “To create awareness on the importance of remaining healthy, we have been posting videos on social media on various topics like knee exercises and back exercises which are free for all. We are also designing customised sessions for an individual or for the family depending on the requirements. Here the exercise videos once planned are shared with the client and the training sessions are monitored virtually through video calling apps,” said Director Health Freaks, Ankur Choudhary.

People who generally like to sweat it out at the gym have also taken up other forms of exercise to continue with their fitness regimes. With a myriad of options to choose from like yoga, zumba, boxing and strength training, all one requires for these exercises is a mat and a little corner in the house.

“Initially I was very apprehensive about being inactive at home, but all thanks to Cult Fit (an online fitness company) and their online sessions that I am getting a thorough workout. I generally like to follow their zumba classes which I had thought would just be some basic drill exercises but it actually is a pretty good workout session. The app has also roped in names like Mary Kom, Nora Fatehi, Vijender Singh and Brett Lee as trainers to conduct the session which adds to the excitement,” said Gia, a fitness enthusiast who feels that this has also helped her in creating a daily routine while at home.

For senior citizen, Renu Khemani, yoga and breathing exercises are very important to lead a healthy way of life. “Before the lockdown was imposed I would regularly go to Kanke Dam for an early morning walk. While nothing beats the energetic feeling one gets after a brisk 40- minute walk, I am trying to follow a healthy lifestyle at home as well. Being a diabetic, I am very particular with what I eat and also monitor my sugar levels every day. I make it a point to do yoga followed by pranayam every morning and I am also keeping myself actively involved in the household chores,” said the Kanke road resident.
