Footfalls pick up in Niranjanpur Mandi

Friday, 26 June 2020 | PNS | Dehradun

The number of vendors visiting the wholesale vegetables and fruits market in Niranjanpur Mandi has increased in the past few days. This was stated by the head of Dehradun Mandi Samiti, Rajesh Sharma. According to Sharma, few local vendors were visiting the Mandi in the initial days after it was recently reopened.

However, the footfalls have increased in recent days since the supply of fruits and vegetables from districts with high load of Covid-19 has been restricted. He said that as per the orders, only 100 vendors are allowed to enter the Mandi while the remaining are asked to return the next day. On the question of inconvenience caused to vendors, Sharma said that the entry is given on a first come first serve basis and all vendors are aware of this rule, therefore no one has any issue and most of them return the next day.

Meanwhile, some vegetables and fruits reportedly rotted away in the Mandi recently due to decreased purchase by vendors.

Talking about this, Sharma said that the farmers were initially supplying the vegetables and fruits like they used to do before the lockdown.

Since several wedding parties are usually organised in June, they supplied the additional quantity of vegetables and fruits as usual but no wedding parties are being held on a large scale this year. The farmers were informed about the situation and they have resumed bringing the limited supply, stated Sharma. He further informed that everything is going well in the Mandi and no supply of vegetables and fruits are perishing due to lack of sale among vendors.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Mandi will remain closed on Saturday and Sunday as per the State Government orders for the sanitisation of the area.
