Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Imran Hussain along with the Ambassador of France to India H E Emmanuel Lenain and Bruno, country head of French Agency for Development (AFD) visited a Fair Price Shop at Tughlakabad enclave to witness the various initiatives being taken by the Delhi Government to ensure food security to the people, particularly the vulnerable sections of the society during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The French delegation was informed that the Delhi government under the National Food Security Act is providing subsidized food grains to almost 50 per cent of the population of the city which is being implemented by the Delhi Government at the ground level. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Delhi Government has enhanced its efforts towards ensuring the food security of the people,” the government said in a statement.
Apart from the regular entitlement, the Delhi government along with the Central government has also provided supplementary support by giving 5 kg of foodgrains per beneficiary and 1 kg pulses per household under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, it said, adding that the food grains are being distributed through a network of more than 2000 Fair Price Shops located in different parts of Delhi.
