Gang duping people with foreign exchange busted, one arrested

With the arrest of a 47 year old security guard, the Delhi Police on Thursday claimed to have busted a gang of cheats who used to dupe people by showing them US dollars.

The accused has been identified as Asim Mandal, a resident of district Nadia in West Bengal. Police said that the accused Asim worked as a security guard in CR Park earlier but in order to earn quick money he joined the gang of cheats.

According to R P Meena, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Southeast district, a complaint was received in which the complainant, a taxi driver, stated that he met a person who showed him a US dollar and induced him that he has several bundles of US dollar and he wants to exchange with Indian currency.

“The deal was settled in Rs one lakh to exchange five thousands US Dollar between them. On July 17, the accused called him in Taimoor Nagar where one another man and one woman met him. They handed over a bag pretending to have five thousands US dollars and took the bag of Rs one lakh from the victim. When the complainant checked the bag, he found Dollar shaped cutting papers in the bag,” said the DCP.

“A case under section 420/34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at New Friends Colony police station and investigation was taken up,” said the DCP.

“Through CDR analysis, the police team succeeded to trace and nab Aasim from his house in Ghaziabad. During interrogation, the accused disclosed that he met one Badul who was also from West Bengal and joined his gang,” said the DCP.

“The role of accused Asim was to induce simpletons by first showing some genuine US dollars and claiming that they had found a bag containing several bundles of the foreign currency. Then a deal fix on much lesser worth,” said the DCP.

“Once the deal was sealed, the gang would receive the cash from the victims and then hand over the bag. But before the victim could check the contents, gang members would suddenly disappear,” the DCP added.

“Manhunt has been initiated to nab the remaining accused including the woman,” the DCP added.
