Even as the Ganjam district administration relaxed shutdown norms in all urban areas for three days from Tuesday allowing people to purchase essential items, the Covid-19 cases in the district continued to rise with 188 fresh cases being reported in the last 24 hours.
Of the 543 new cases reported in the State on Tuesday, Ganjam alone contributed 34.6% cases. The district also registered one more Covid-19 death on the day as an 80-year-old male patient, who was also suffering from diabetes and heart disease, succumbed to the deadly virus.
The fresh 188 cases included 12 corona warriors, five persons with travel history to other States and 171 persons with active contact with previous positive cases. All the new cases were shifted to Covid Hospitals, informed officials.
