The challenge has been taken up to develop Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi, Chhattisgarh's newest district, as per the expectations of its residents, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel announced on Friday.
The dedication and foundation laying ceremony of development works of Rs 332 crores will give a new direction to the district for progress, he said while addressing its residents virtually from Raipur after the ceremony.
He said it was announced on August 15, 2019 to form the new district and it came into existence on February 10, 2020.
Recalling freedom fighters Barrister Thakur Chedilal and Pt Madhav Rao Sapre, Baghel said the district has historical importance in terms of heritage, religion and tourism.
The river Narmada begins its journey from Marwahi and do does river Arpa. Besides promising to keep the Arpa river clean, Baghel announced an ‘Arpa Mahotsav’.
Presiding, Assembly Speaker Dr Charan Das Mahant said it is a dream come true for the Marwahi residents that their demand for a separate district has been fulfilled after years. MP Jyotsana Mahant and cabinet Ministers ere also linked virtually to the event.
