Gridlock reported on Delhi-G’gram border

Friday, 27 November 2020 | Parvesh Sharma | Gurugram

Amid demonstration by several farmers' outfits on November 26, the commuters on the Delhi-Gurugram expressway faced huge traffic snarls on the expressway throughout the day.

The commuters on the National Highway-48 were stuck near the Delhi-Gurugram border on the expressway as the Delhi Police had put up barricades and were checking every vehicle in view of the farmer’s “Delhi Chalo” protest against the farm laws passed by the central government in September.

The vehicles lined up in Gurugram from the Delhi-Gurugram border to the Shankar Chowk on the national highway.

As a precautionary measure, the Haryana Police was also checking every vehicle for farmers and protesters looking to enter the national capital.

On the other hand, the impact of the agitation by farmers organizations was negligible in Gurugram district and the situation remained peaceful throughout the day, no untoward incident was reported from anywhere in the district. In view of the protests of various farmer organizations, the district administration and the Gurugram police had made elaborate arrangements to maintain law and order in the district. As precautionary measures a number of police personnels were deployed along with duty magistrate and supervisory officer and duty in-charge at the border areas.

According to the district spokesperson, seven places which connect Gurugram to other districts and territories includes Kapadivas Border, Nuh Border on the KMP Expressway, Sohna-Nuh Border, and Delhi-Gurugram border on the national highway-48, Bargurjar, near Hotel Best Western Resort on Pachgaon-Mohammadpur Ahir Road and near Panchgaon Chowk at these locations the police put up checkpoints along with huge deployment of force.

The district administration had also made arrangements for videography and photography at these seven places to record any untoward incidents.

As a precaution, three police reserve forces were also kept ready so that they could be dispatched immediately whenever needed.

“Despite the protests of the farmers, the situation remained peaceful and the functioning in all government and private offices went on like normal days. The market and shopping mall of the district were also open like normal days. State transport buses and rail services also remained smooth,” said the district spokesperson.

Earlier in the day, Swaraj India president Yogendra Yadav, was detained from Rathiwas village on the National Highway-48 in Gurugram along with dozens of supporters at around 12.15 pm on Thursday.  He was detained by the police as a preventive action.
