Growth rate of Covid infections declines in Chandigarh

The average growth rate of Covid-19 infection has declined from 4.4 percent to 2.2 in the past ten days in Chandigarh.

Despite a spike in the daily cases and death toll in September in Chandigarh, the positive cases are now showing a steady decline.

The growth rate of COVID-19 infection which was highest in Chandigarh across the nation during the initial days of September has now declined to 2.2 percent. The average growth rate essentially means the speed at which COVID-19 infections increase.

The daily growth rate of COVID-19 cases, averaged over the seven-day period in Chandigarh, however remains higher than the worst affected states of Maharashtra (1.5), Tamil Nadu (1.0), Andhra Pradesh (1.1) and others in the country.

The growth rate of positive cases in neighboring states of Punjab and Haryana stood at 1.7 percent and 1.9 percent respectively.

Apart from the growth rate, other parameters of COVID-19 have also seen improvement over the past ten days in the city.

The recovery rate of COVID-19 positive cases in Chandigarh stood at 78.9 percent. The active ratio of cases stood at 19.9 percent which means for every 100 confirmed cases, 19 are currently infected in the city.

As far as testing is concerned, a cumulative test positivity rate of 15.5 percent was recorded in the city.

Both the recovery rate and test positivity rate in Chandigarh were the worst in the country nearly two weeks back.

The total cases in the city were 11553 while 2303 were active cases on Sunday. 9103 residents have so far recovered from COVID-19 in the city.

TWO DEATHS, 173 FRESH CASES IN CHANDIGARH

The union territory of Chandigarh on Sunday reported two deaths as 173 fresh positive cases were reported.

According to the Chandigarh Health Department’s evening Bulletin, “A 70 years old female resident of Ram Darbar, a comorbid has expired at PGIMER on September 26. An 81 years old male resident of Sector 52, a comorbid expired at GMCH 32 on September 27.”

In the last 24 hours, a maximum of 14 positive cases were reported in Manimajra, seven cases each were reported in Sector 20 and Sector 44 among other cases.

As per the health bulletin, the fresh cases were reported in Sectors 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 32, 33, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, 48, 49, 50, 51, 52, 56, 63,  Sector 38 west.

Bapu Dham Behlana, Dadumajra, Daria, Dhanas, Hallomajra, Kajheri, Khuda Jassu, Khuda Lohara, Maloya, Manimajra, Mauli Jagran, PGIMER campus and, Raipur Khurd.

There were 188 critical COVID-19 patients admitted in the NHE, PGIMER on Sunday. Out of them, 28 patients were admitted in the ICU.

Among the 173 positive cases reported, 105 were male residents and 68 were female residents. A total of 166 patients have been discharged including persons from home isolation who have completed 10 days and are asymptomatic, the bulletin stated.

A total of 74415 samples have been tested so far in the city. Report of 178 was awaited, the bulletin added.
