Gurugram plans to start rapid antigen test for faster results

For faster Covid-19 test results, the Gurugram district is going to start using the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)-approved rapid antigen kit test soon.

Gurugram Health Department has received 8,000 kits and with this kit, the entire testing the process took about 15 minutes to produce a test report.

“Rapid Antigen Detection Test Kit will examine potential patients of corona infection in 15 minutes and if any patient report comes negative via this kit we will again conduct a sample test by RT-PCR method to confirm that the test report. The biggest advantage of this kit that we will detect corona positive patients in just 15 minutes,” Civil Surgeon Dr Virendra Yadav.

Meanwhile, a several teams have been appointed by the district Health Department in separate shifts. Duty of 7 Lab Technicians, a pathologist, a microbiologist, Covid microbiologist and data entry operators have been engaged for this task.

Also, around 250 samples of suspected corona patients are being taken by the government health staff on a daily basis. “Testing is also being done in the private labs authorised in the district, whose rates have recently been reduced to Rs 2,400 by the state Government,” Yadav added.

Apart from this, Three more coronavirus patients died on Tuesday in Gurugram, taking the district's total death toll to 69, the highest in any district in Haryana. Besides, 133 new cases were reported in the district while 117 patients were recovered on Tuesday.

Gurugram has registered 4,645 cases so far in areas falling under different locations, including 39 who died due to comorbidities and remaining 30 without comorbidities.

"In the district around 2,743 patients have been cured and discharged. Gurugram now has 1,833 active cases, including 1,255 in-home isolation. Remaining 409 patients are admitted in private, government and Covid care centres in the district," Yadav said. The Health official said that a majority of corona cases are coming from containment zones where the situation remains precarious.

Meanwhile, Gurugram now has 108 containment zones and an equal number of buffer zones in the district after a review meeting at the Mini-Secretariat which was chaired by District Magistrate Amit Khatri.

The number of containment zones in the district has increased to 108 from 98. In which 100 containment zones have been set up in Gurugram block, 4 in Pataudi and 3 in Sohna and one in Farrukhnagar. Thus a total of 98 containment zones have been made in the district.

"We have 36 hospitals in the district where Covid patients are admitted. We have since added seven more hospitals to the list. Each private hospital has 25% beds reserved for Covid patients," Yadav added.
