The Gurugram police Public Relation Officer (PRO) tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday.
He has undergone the test six days ago and since then he was undergoing home quarantine.
The police PRO office is located in the Gurugram police headquarters and the offices of all the senior police officers including commissioner of Gurugram police are situated in the same building.
“I have no idea when I got infected with the virus. A few days ago I was not feeling well so I got myself tested and the report was positive and now I am recovering well,” the Gurugram police PRO said.
The Gurugram district reported 132 more Covid-19 positive cases on Wednesday. The situation is alarming now since the tally has zoomed up to 1195. The city has also reported four deaths.
"Some of our policemen have got infected with Covid-19 but they prevented a much bigger infection outbreak in the district," said a senior police officer adding that the entire police headquarters building has been sanitized and they are conducting extensive contact tracing.
He said the morale of the police personnel is high and everyone is busy in their respective duties.
The spike in numbers keep rising in the city with 779 cases registered in the last week. Some of the places like Sarhaul, Dundehera, Rajendra Park, Khandsa, Hari Nagar, Rajiv Nagar, Sector-10, DLF and Basai are turning out to be hot spots in the district.
It is worrying for all age groups especially senior citizens as cases od coronavirus infection have appeared from all over the district.
As per the data of the health department, 33 infected persons were detected on May 26, 20 on May 27, 68 on May 28, 115 on May 29 and 157 on May 30, 97 on May 31, 129 on June 1, 160 on June 2 and 132 on June 3.
Earlier, 12 police personnel deployed at the Udyog Vihar police station were also admitted in different hospitals after they were found positive. All the policemen were on duty at the Delhi-Gurugram border at Kapashera.
Apart from police personnel, Two Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were found infected with coronavirus in Gurugram on May 27.
The BSF personnel are deployed in a camp located in Bhondsi village. They were infected after contact with high-risk patients.
