Hold Punjab, Haryana CMs liable for pollution: Atishi to air quality panel

Tuesday, 24 November 2020 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

AAP MLA and chairperson of the Environment Committee of Delhi Assembly Atishi on Monday met  the newly-appointed panel for Air Quality Management and urged it to hold chief ministers of Punjab and Haryana liable for causing pollution in the national capital.

Talking to the media after the meeting, Atishi said two main issues were raised with the commission. "The commission was requested to fix the accountability of the Chief Ministers of Punjab and Haryana on the issue of burning stubble and take strict action against them by filing a case.

Atishi said that the commission was also requested to order the governments of Punjab and Haryana to resolve the stubble burning with bio decomposer technology.

“This is effective as well as an efficient alternative to this problem. Secondly, we have also requested them to take stringent action against the chief ministers of Punjab and Haryana for they have failed to curb stubble burning. The Air Quality Commission has the power to take legal actions and can order jail to anyone causing pollution. We have requested them to hold them accountable for the pollution caused in Delhi," she said.
