Interacting with the media, he said that the conditions have changed considerably due to Covid-19. Ensuring the protection of every person in Kumaon from Covid-19 under these circumstances will be his priority, said Hyanki. Using masks, sanitisers and maintaining social distance are vital for this. “Our aim should be to protect ourselves and others from the contagion. Migrants from various states of India are returning to various districts in the Kumaon region. Along with protection of their lives, we will also have to provide social security for them and their families,” he said.
The commissioner said that he would hold a meeting with all district magistrates of Kumaon region and chalk out a plan to facilitate self employment for the returning migrants to being them in the developmental stream. Scope for establishing new testing centres in Kumaon is being checked to help step up the Covid-19 testing. While currently, samples in the Kumaon region are tested only at the government medical college in Haldwani, the process of establishing new laboratories for Covid-19 testing in Mukteshwar, Almora and Pantnagar is underway.
