MRSPTU, IKGPTU TO conduct  ONLINE CLASSES

Chandigarh: IKG Punjab Technical University (IKG PTU) and Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRS PTU), along with their constituent or affiliated colleges, have been told to conduct classes using online methodology using various techniques available like YouTube, Zoom,  Skype, Google classroom, Whatsapp groups etc.  The directions were issued by the state Technical Education and Industrial Training Minister Charanjit Singh Channi to state’s both Technical Education Universities to take steps and ensure that study of the students does not suffer during lockdown.

AAP seeks supply of essential Goods to people

Chandigarh: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has demanded that Punjab Government should first ensure an uninterrupted , including ration and medicines, for poor and needy belonging to every section of the society in this hour of global distress. “It should broach the issue of allowing special tax exemption with the Centre to shopkeepers, traders and businessmen under Section 80-C of the Income Tax Act, who are helping out their staff, including daily wage earners, by providing them ration and other necessities of daily use sitting at home,” said AAP leaders led by the Leader of Opposition Harpal Singh Cheema.

SACRILEGIOUS POST ON SOCIAL MEDIA: man held

Patiala: A resident of Patiala, Akashdeep, 34 years old, was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly posting some objectionable messages on Facebook to create communal disharmony and enmity between different religions. Patiala SSP Mandeep Singh Sidhu said that a case under sections 188, 295-A, 505-C of the Indian Penal Code and and Section 54 of Disaster Management Act, 2005, has been registered against him. His mobile phone, used for uploading this objectionable content, has been taken into possession.

SAD ASKS Capt TO FOLLOW PM’S EXAMPLE

Chandigarh: SAD asked Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to follow the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s example and not desist from holding an all-party meeting in the State to build a consensus on how to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.  “It is unfortunate that the Chief Minister has rebuffed the SAD’s offer to hold an all-party meeting to build a joint strategy to tackle the unprecedented situation following rise of COVID-19 cases in the State. SAD has always stood for cooperating with the State Government and has always offered constructive suggestions including the need to cater to every section of society, especially the poor and under privileged during this time of crisis.

MINISTER VISITs MOHALI CIVIL HOSPITAL

Mohali: To assess the ground situation with regard to coronavirus treatment, Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu on Wednesday paid a surprise visit to the Civil Hospital, Phase-VI. He took stock of treatment being provided to the patients found positive for corona virus besides making an assessment of various types of equipment and medicines and the sanitation arrangements.  The Minister also interacted with the doctors and other medical staff and ascertained their needs. He assured them that all necessary equipment and paraphernalia would be provided to them in order to enable them to continue their work with missionary zeal.

50 PPE KITS PROVIDED IN 48 HOURS

Chandigarh: Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal on Wednesday handed over 50 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits to the medical staff of Bathinda Civil Hospital. Notably, Manpreet on Monday had promised to provide PPE kits within a week but he made it available in just 48 hours. However, he also assured that 200 more kits will be supplied to the civil hospital in next three days.  Thanking the Indian Medical Association for providing these kits, Manpreet said that a stock of more than 200 PPE kits was already available in the Civil Hospital, but these kits were being provided as per the demand of the medical staff.

SANITIsATION STAFF ‘AMBASSADORS OF HYGIENE’: Min

Chandigarh: Calling the staff engaged in the sanitization work as the ‘Ambassadors of Hygiene’, Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu on Wednesday assured that their needs regarding the safety equipment concerning masks, gloves and sanitizers besides ensuring their medical check-up, would also be taken care of.   Sidhu, on the sidelines of launching the sanitization drive at Mohali’s Phase-VII under his personal supervision, also said that the State Government has taken necessary measures at a rapid pace to ensure that the coronavirus disease is effectively contained.

ALL SET FOR WHEAT PROCUREMENT: MANPREET

Chandigarh: Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Badal on Wednesday said that all the arrangements have been made for smooth procurement of wheat and the State Government would purchase every grain of the wheat.  “Punjab Government is fully geared up for the wheat procurement season starting from April 15 and Punjab Mandi Board and government procurement agencies have already been instructed to make all necessary arrangements in this regard well in time,” he added.

Sant Nirankari Mission donates Rs 50 lakhs

Chandigarh: Under the guidance of Nirankari Satguru Mata Sudiksha Ji Maharaj, Rs 50 lakhs donation via cheque was handed over to Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal at his residence on Wednesday by Sant Nirankari Mandal Chandigarh Zone in-charge KK Kashyap to aid families in need.
