UT Police extends challan payment date

Chandigarh: Keeping in view the present scenario amid COVID pandemic, the Chandigarh Police has decided to further extend the period for payment of pending traffic challans up to June 30, 2020. Persons who want to dispose of their pending traffic challan are requested to download “eSaathi Chandigarh Police” App using Google Play Store and App Store and schedule an appointment in Challaning Branch, Traffic Lines, Sector 29, Chandigarh so that social distancing can be maintained while disposal of challans.

SJPNL starts trial for 24X7 water supply

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh’s Secretary (Urban Development) Rajneesh on Minday said that Shimla Jal Prabandhan Nigam Limited has started a trial in Scandal Point and Middle Bazaar area for providing 24X7 water supply to the consumers. With this initiative, about 500 connections would be provided with 12-hour water supply and equal amount of water would be provided to all consumers in the initial stage. He said that if the efforts would be successful, the period of water distribution would be increased to 24X7.

BBMB surpasses generation target

Chandigarh: Bhakra Beas Management Board has surpassed generation targets of 1447 million units fixed by the Central Electricity Authority for the financial year 2020-21 (up to May 31, 2020) by generating 2065.44 million units of which is 42.74 percent more than the target. The plant availability for the period from April 1, 2020, to May 31, 2020, excluding RM&U is 99.66 percent and transmission system availability for the period April 1, 2020, to May 31, 2020, is 99.81 percent. This has been possible due to judicious operation of reservoirs as well as efficient operation and maintenance of the generating units with one of the highest plant availability, said BBMB chairman DK Sharma.

Water supply in Chd from 3.15 am to 9 am

Chandigarh: The Water Supply and Sewerage Disposal Committee of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has decided to enhance the water supply hours in the morning from 3.15 am to 9 am during the summer season. It was decided that road gullies will be checked throughout city by the concerned SDEs and give daily report to the higher authorities. To ease out low water supply in the areas, a team of officers and committee members will visit the areas and challans will also be issued to the violators, who installed tullu pumps in direct water supply lines.

‘Safety First’ prog to be rolled out at Mall

Chandigarh: Nexus Malls has joined hands with Bureau Veritas for their ‘Safety First’ program. The objective of ‘Safety First’ is to comply with optimum standards of health and safety recommendations of the WHO or local authorities are implemented without any deviations. Elante, which is part of Nexus Malls, will be the first Mall in the tricity to partner with Bureau Veritas to roll out Safety-First program, providing reassurance of quality and a safe shopping experience to consumers amid Coronavirus pandemic. The program will ensure implementation of the stringent SoP’s which have been released by The Shopping Centres Association of India / WHO when the malls reopen, said Dalip Sehgal, CEO, Nexus Malls.

We won't allow acp to be set up: Congress

Chandigarh: The city Congress, led by its chief Pardeep Chhabra, has come out in strong protest against the decision of BJP-ruled Municipal Corporation to set up an animal cremation plant near Dadumajra. Chhabra said, already the residents of the area are distressed due to foul smell and diseases spreading due to dumping ground and Jaypee plant and now BJP wants to make the lives of residents of the area a living hell by setting up an animal crematorium plant in the area.

KU ranks 68 among Universities of India

Kurukshetra: Kurukshetra University has been ranked 68th among the top 150 Government Universities, including central and state funded, in India. KU is the only state university of Haryana to find a place in top 100 government institutions in the country. Among the Government institutions in Haryana, KU has been ranked at fourth position. KU Vice-Chancellor  Dr Nita Khanna congratulated all stakeholders including students, teachers, non-teaching staff and alumni for this remarkable achievement.

Wheat, Dal distributed amongst 94,000 srch

Mohali: With the dedicated efforts of Mohali District Administration and the Food and Civil Supplies Department, the ‘Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojna’ (PMGKY) has seen 5586 Metric Tonnes of Wheat and 288 Metric Tonnes of Dal being distributed to a total of 94,000 smart ration card holders in the district at the rate of 15 Kg of wheat per member for three months and three Kg of Dal per family as three months lump-sum, free of cost under the National Food Security Act, 2013, said Mohali Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan. He said that no laxity would be tolerated in distribution process and policy of zero tolerance is being adopted towards any malpractice.

Lecture on COVID held at Panjab university

Chandigarh: The Interdisciplinary Center for Swami Vivekananda Studies, Panjab University, on Monday organized a special lecture on COVID: Concerns and Care by Dr Parul Ichhpujani, an Associate Professor at the Department of Ophthalmology, Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector-32. Dr Parul, in her illustrated presentation, discussed how COVID has engulfed whole world, the cases are multiplying and deaths are occurring at rapid scale. Since there is no medication or vaccination to prevent or cure this viral infection, social distancing and maintaining hand hygiene is the only panacea to save ourselves.

Himachal Chief Minister calls on Governor

Shimla: Himachal Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur called on Governor Bandaru Dattatraya at Raj Bhavan on Monday.   An official statement described it as a courtesy call.
