UFUNA celebrates Population Day 

Dhenkanal: The World  Population Day  was  celebrated  by the Utkal Federation  of  United  Nations Association (UFUNA) here under  the  chairmanship  of  lawyer Manoranjan  Pattanaik.  Former CBI Judge BC Rout and former Chief Engineer AK Satpathy spoke  on the need of population control. UFUNA State secretary Bahadur  Patsani  welcomed the guests while Dr Dipayan Pattanaik gave a vote  of  thanks.  Prof Khirod Naik, Soumyaranjan Pattanaik, Priyabrat Bhanj and Upanna Ray participated in the programme.

Snakebite: ASHA Worker dies; boy critical in N’pada

Nuapada:  Snakebite claimed the life of an ASHA Worker of Patelpada village under Sinapali block in Nuapada district on Friday night. Shantilata Majhi was sleeping in her house when a venomous snake bit her. In another incident at Salebhata village in the district, 19-year-old boy Dinesh Sahu was bitten by a snake in his house. He was rushed to local hospital. After his conditions deteriorated, his family took him to a sorcerer for cure. But police later took him to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). Fortunately, his condition was stated to be stable.

Man killed by son in Gajapati village

Paralakhemundi: In a barbaric incident, a man was beaten to death by his son over trifling family issues at Bapujipentha village under the Gurndi police station in Gajapati district this morning. The deceased was identified as Meenaketan Biswal and accused son as Manoranjan, who has been detained by police.  

Drunken man beats son to death in Nabarangpur

Nabarangapur: An inebriated man beat his son to death over a family matter at Uparagadi village under Tentulikhunti block in Nabarangapur district on Friday night. Police arrested the accused identified as Madhab Majhi (52) on Saturday.

Ganja worth Rs 30L seized; 3 held in Gajapati

Paralakhemundi: Police have seized huge quantities of ganja worth over Rs 30 lakh and arrested three persons for transporting the contraband from two different places during last two days. While the Mohana police seized 468 kg ganja from a maize-loaded van and arrested two persons at Luduru Chhak early on Saturday, the R Udayagiri police seized 75 kg of ganja from an auto-rickshaw and arrested its driver near Chhelagada on Friday.

102 kg ganja seized; 4 held in Kandhamal

Phulbani: The Phiringia police in Kandhamal district seized around 102 kg of ganja and arrested four persons for transporting the contraband at Pobingia Chhak on Friday.

The police also seized a Uber taxi and a motorcycle. The arrestees were identified as Aman Digal (25) and Josaya Digal (20) of Rajaghara village under K Nuagan police station and Jetendra Digal (29) and Manoj Digal (30) of Kudurha village under the Phiringia PS. They were forwarded to court on Saturday.
