MP Acharya tests Covid +ve 

Bhubaneswar: Rajya Sabha BJD member Prasanna Acharya has tested positive for Covid-19. He has been admitted to the Vikash Hospital in Bargarh, his native place. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has wished him speedy recovery.

SPCB to have 2 new Regional Offices

Bhubaneswar:  Two more Regional Offices of the State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) would be opened in Balangir and Koraput districts, Forest and Environment Minister Bikram Keshari Arukh has informed. With this, the SPCB would have total 14 Regional Offices. The Balangir Regional Office would cover Subarnapur, Boudh and Nuapada districts and the one in Koraput would have Koraput, Nabarangpur and Malkangiri districts under its jurisdiction. The SPCB had also proposed two more Regional Offices in Gajapati and Kandhamal districts, but the proposal was rejected due to distance issue.

BBSR airport gets ISO certification

Bhubaneswar: The Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here has been certified as ISO 50001:2018 standard for the energy management system, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has informed. This is a result of the airport’s laudable efforts to achieve the highest standards in energy management operations. The certification is valid till September 13, 2023. Last year, the airport had bagged the Airport Service Quality (ASQ) 2018 award for being the ‘Best Airport’.

TN man gets 5-yr jail for torching trains in Puri

Puri: The CJM Court here on Friday sentenced a person of Tamil Nadu to five years of imprisonment for torching several train coaches at the Puri railway station in 2015. Convicting Ramachandran Subash, CJM Indu Sharma also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on him. Notably, a major fire had broken out at the railway station on November 12, 2015, in which three coaches, one each of Nandankanan Express, Tirupati Express and Puri-Howrah Express, were gutted. Ramachandran with possession of a matchbox was arrested from the spot.

Brahmapur BJD holds blood donation camp 

Brahmapur: The Biju Yuva Janata Dal (BYJD), Brahmapur Mahanagar organised a blood donation camp at the Kuthari Temple premises on the 75th birthday of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. BYJD Mahanagar president Ajit Panda organised the camp on local MLA Bikram Panda’s advice. A total of 125 units of blood were collected. Besides, tree saplings were also distributed. Among others, BJD Ganjam district president Dr RC Chyaupatnaik, Jeevan Bindu district coordinator Subash Moharana, former Corporator Dandapani Nayak, Bhismacharya Chaudhuty, BJD town president Bijay Samal, R Muralimohan, Mukunda Gouda, Jagannath Sabat, Rajanish Mishra, Sanghamitra Dalei, Mamata Bisoyi and Fair Khan were present.

Villagers rescue pangolin in Baleswar  (Pix)

Baleswar: A pangolin was rescued by villagers and later handed over to forest officials at Daripokhari village under Oupada block in Baleswar district on Friday night. Some youths spotted the pangolin roaming near a canal. Later, one Pradeep Kumar Rout rescued the animal and handed it over to the Dantur Forest Beat House. Forest Ranger Babita Soren reached the spot and initiated the pangolin’s health checkup. It was believed that the animal had come out from the Kuldiha Wildlife Sanctuary. “The pangolin will be released into a suitable place after its health checkup,” informed the Forest Ranger.

Keonjhar TU leader recovering from Covid

Champua: Keonjhar Forest and Mines Workers’ Union general secretary Maheswar Rout is recovering from Covid-19 and is now in self-quarantine at Bhubaneswar. He had been admitted in a private hospital,  from where he has been discharged after being found negative.
