Lt Gen Sahoo takes over as DG, Dental Services
Bhubaneswar: Lieutenant General Nanda Kishore Sahoo, VSM, has taken over as Director General Dental Services & Colonel Commandant of Army Dental Corps. He is the first Odia officer to assume this office. Sahoo, an alumnus of the King George’s Medical University and the Mumbai University, has held multiple offices during 37 years of his military career. He is also an internationally-acclaimed author, teacher, and winner of the KS Master silver medal.
JSpur doc who treated Covid patients dies
Jagatsinghpur: Dr Deba Prasad Satpathy from Jagatsinghpur district, who was working in Santaldihi under Purulia district in West Bengal, succumbed to his illness on October 16. He was 72. Dr Satpathy on October 14 felt breathing syndrome and suffered from acute respiratory problem. He was coming to Bhubaneswar by an ambulance for treatment but sadly breathed his last on the way. His body was cremated at the Satya Nagar crematorium. A pall of gloom descended on his native village Rambhadeipur here when the sad news reached. He is survived by wlife Chinmayee, two sons Mantosh and Santosh and daughter Mrunmayee.
Youth stabbed to death in Ganjam
Brahmapur: A heated altercation between two persons took a violent turn when one of them was stabbed to death at Banthapalli village under the Digapahandi police station in Ganjam district on Saturday morning. The deceased was identified as Bachan Swain, who wain was attacked with a knife by his rival. The victim succumbed to the injuries while being shifted to the MKCG Medical College Hospital here. Police reached the spot and initiated a probe. The accused was absconding following the incident.
Man killed in bomb attack in Banki
Cuttack: A man was killed on the spot after unidentified miscreants hurled a bomb at Gholapur village under the Banki police station in Cuttack district on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Gobinda Behera. Though the exact motive behind the attack was yet to be ascertained, it was suspected that the incident was fallout of past enmity. Tension prevailed at the village following the bombing. Police reached the spot and started an investigation.
Chhatar Yatra held without devotees
Bhawanipatna: The famous Chhatar Yatra of Goddess Manikeswari was conducted amid Covid-19 restrictions and tight security without participation of devotees here on Saturday. The festival began at around 5.25 am when the procession of Chhatar of Manikeswari was taken out to Jenakhol on outskirts of Bhawanipatna from the Manikeswari Temple. It also returned to the temple in a procession. The district administration had clamped Section-144 around the area to prevent congregation and animal slaughter during the festival.
