Baijayant Panda tests Covid positive 

Bhubaneswar: BJP national vice-president Baijayant Panda has tested positive for Covid-19 and is currently under isolation. He informed this on Friday night.

Kandhmal BJP leader Patra passes away 

Phulbani: Kandhmal’s veteran BJP leader Trinath Patra passes away in a private hospital in Bhubaneswar on Saturday. He was 75. He was a Councillor of the Phulbani Municipality and associated with various social organisations. He was also a stamp vendor. BJP leader Bhagaban Mohanty paid tribute to the departed soul. The Court Chhak market was closed for the day as a mark of respect for Patra.

Poster making: DAVian Snehashree 2nd best 

Bhubaneswar: In the National Poster Making Competition organised by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Snehashree Sahoo, a Class-IX student of the DAV Public School Chandrasekharpur here has been adjudged as second best. The competition was organised in commemoration of the 26th World Ozone Day on the theme " Ozone for life: 35 years of Ozone layer protection" among students of Classes-VIII to XII. Snehashree was honoured with a certificate and a cheque for Rs 7,000. Snehashree has won many laurels participating in other dignified competitions. The School authorities congratulated her and mentor Art Teacher Nilamani Muduli for the glorious feat.

Tension in S’pur as boy dies in road mishap

Sambalpur: The death of a seven-year-old boy sparked tension here on Saturday as over a hundred irate locals, including women, gheraoed the Town police station alleging Police inaction in the incident. The boy, identified as Sahil, was walking near the Mahila police station. While crossing the road, he stumbled on the road; and, in the meantime, a car ran over him. Police detained the car driver for interrogation.

Driver dead as ore-laden truck plunges into gorge 

Keonjhar: A truck driver was killed after the 14-wheel vehicle fell into a 20-feet-deep gorge near the KP Takurani Iron Ore Mines under the Barbil police limits in Keonjhar district on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Prakash Jena (29), a resident of Rekutia village near Anandapur in the district. The truck was completely damaged.

Flipkart goods truck catches fire in Bhadrak

Bhadrak: A container truck carrying a consignment of e-commerce site Flipkart caught fire after hitting an SUV on NH-16 at Dahanigadia of Bhadrak district late on Friday night. The truck driver narrowly escaped. Three occupants of the SUV sustained minor injuries. The truck was en route to Kolkata from Mumbai.
