Chhattisgarh Police on Sunday busted another IPL betting racket operating inside a moving car in the state capital and arrested six persons.
Raipur Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Kumar Yadav told The Pioneer that Rs 55,880 in cash besides betting records detailing transactions of around Rs 10 crore were seized from them.
The arrested men were identified as Vijay Parpyani (42), Avinash Daultani (28), Naveen Chawla (24), Nikhil Govindani (24), Ashwani Makhija (24) and Umesh Rajwani (22), all residents of Raipur, the officer said.
Police seized 30 mobile phones, a laptop, a communicator machine (which can connect 17 mobile phones in one go), a pen drive, a voice recorder, a TV, a DTH set top box and a car (C G-15, CX-9922) from their possession.
The police conducted the raid on Saturday night after getting a tip about a betting racket inside a moving car coming from Durg to Raipur, on the match played between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad, the officer added.
When the police tried to intercept the car, four of the accused who were in it managed to escape from Tatibandh area but were caught near Udyog Bhawan later, Yadav said.
The men confessed they operated the cricket 'satta' inside their car as they did not get a room in any hotel or any other safe place due to the lockdown, Yadav said.
The accused told the police that two other accomplices were running the racket with them from a house in Telibandha locality. These two were also arrested, the officer added.
