JLNMMC Microbiology Department crosses 50,000 sample testing

The Microbiology Department of Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial Medical College (JLNMMC) has conducted a total of 502,460 Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (CT-PCR) tests, out of which 1,230 samples were found positive.

Head of Department Dr Arvind Neral said in a statement that the 50,000 mark was achieved through collective responsibility, team spirit, division of labour and dedication. This has given a boost to the number of tests in Chhattisgarh after AIIMS, Raipur.

He added that based on the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) standards, the Bio-Safety Level-2 lab was developed. Slowly the testing picked up to a range of 1,000 to 1,200 samples on a daily basis for coronavirus.

The work is being done in three shifts having a team of 55 people working day and night continuously. The team members are not allowed to leave the hospital. The college has made provisions for their stay and food.

Dr Neral said a team of 12 data entry operators daily update all the Health Department and ICMR portals regarding the reports and related information.

In addition, the department has been involved in training  medical officers and technicians through direct classroom or video-conferencing across Chhattisgarh. Six batches of lab technicians have been imparted e-training.
