Incarcerated Rashtriya Janta Dal Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, undergoing treatment at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi, will soon be shifted to Kelly Bungalow the popular name of the official residence of RIMS Director in the hospital and medical college campus.
The development came after three of his sewadars and policemen guarding the prisoner were detected Covid-19 positive. As a precautionary measure the RIMS authorities took the decision in the wake of the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in the Capital city and the flood of such patients in the hospital in the last few days.
Dr Umesh Prasad, heading the team of doctors looking after Lalu’s health said, “It was necessary to keep Lalu Ji away from hospital to avoid Coronavirus infection so the authorities decided to make a change. The Director’s residence, which is a bit away from the hustle bustle may prove a suitable place for him. He can also take a walk there, which could be good for a diabetic patient.”
However, Prasad said that the final decision on shifting Lalu would be taken by the Birsa Munda Central Jail authorities.
Lalu is serving jail term after being convicted and sentenced by a Special CBI Court since December 2017. He was lodged in Birsa Munda Central jail, but was later shifted to RIMS owing to poor health conditions.
In the wake of the decision Ranchi SP (City) Saurabh Kumar today inspected Kelly Bungalow to take stock of the arrangements in terms of security for the former Bihar CM there. He said that the administration will ensure proper security at the place.
