Kidney patients get dialysis facility

Monday, 19 October 2020 | Staff Reporter | RAIPUR

The state unit of the National Health Mission (NHM) and the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) in Raipur have jointly started Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) facility at Devbhog in Chhattisgarh's Gariaband district.

Devbhog block, which includes Supebeda village, is infamous for deaths caused by kidney related diseases. According to the state government, around 75 people have died due to kidney failure in Devbhog since 2008.

The Chhattisgarh government has sanctioned Rs 2.40 crore for beginning the PD facility, a press release from the Health Department said on Sunday.

With the induction of the new dialysis facility in Devbhog, people of Supebeda who suffer from kidney ailments will not have to go to Raipur.

Earlier, kidney patients of Supabeda had to make a trip to Raipur to collect essential fluid to have PD test. Now, their time, money and resources will be saved, the press release said.

The PD facilities began at the Devbhog Community Health Center from Saturday as a pilot project.

AIIMS Raipur has provided special training to the doctor and staff of the Devbhog Center, kidney patients and their family members to regularly monitor the health and come for follow-ups.

NHM Director Dr. Priyanka Shukla said 100 patients will be provided the facilities at Devbhog. However, the serious patients will be referred to Raipur.
