Kidney transplanted female patient cured of Covid

Friday, 30 October 2020 | PNS | Dehradun

The doctors of Mahant Indiresh hospital here have claimed to have successfully treated a kidney transplanted 49 year old female patient who was suffering from Covid-19.  The doctors inform that in this case the treatment of the patient was very challenging because the working capacity of the kidney was reduced and the patient was on drugs for immune suppression. After close supervision and treatment by specialist doctors for fourteen days, the patient has recovered and has been discharged from the hospital.

The patient had undergone kidney transplantation a few years ago. The patient was on medical management and medicines after kidney transplantation.

The Kidney specialist of the hospital Dr  Alok Kumar informed that any serious infection including Corona can prove to be fatal for any such patient who had undergone kidney transplantation. “Such patients are kept over regular medicines. These medicines play a significant role in medical management after transplantation, but these medicines also result in decreased immunity. Lack of immunity can even prove to be life threatening in such patients due to Covid-19”, he said.
