Lalu likely to sacrifice goats to please Goddess Durga

Sunday, 25 October 2020 | VIJAY DEO JHA | Ranchi

Former Bihar Chief Minister and RJD president Lalu Prasad jailed at the sprawling Kelly bungalow is understood to have decided to sacrifice goats on Navmi, the ninth day of Durga puja apparently to please goddess Durga for electoral and political success of his party and his sons in the Bihar assembly election.

Lalu Prasad has even taken three sacrificial goats on the premise of this British era bungalow after his loyalist and party leader Irfan Ansari was seen taking goats inside the bungalow on Thursday evening. Navmi falls on Sunday and as per tantric tradition devotees sacrifice animals mainly goat to please goddess Durga.

The former Bihar chief minister is not only watching the Assembly election in Bihar he is said to be controlling electoral strategies for his party and alliance in Bihar that his younger son Tejashwi Prasad Yadav is heading with chief minister ambition.

The RJD heading UPA alliance in Bihar is engaged in a crucial battle with the NDA combine. But like the 2019 parliamentary election, Lalu Prasad is not available for campaigning after he was lodged in jail following his serial conviction in Rs 950 crore fodder scam in 2017 and 2018.

Later on, he was shifted to RIMS for treatment and lodged at the paying ward.

Kelly bungalow became the new address of Lalu Prasad where he was shifted in August from the paying ward of RIMS to protect him from Covid-19 infection.

But, there is no clarity whether Bihar jail manual which Jharkhand follows, allows such sacrifices in the name of ritual at a time when the opposition BJP has been alleging the Hemant Soren government for suspending jail manual for the comfort of Lalu Prasad. Intriguingly, the Jail department and RIMS have always issued conflicting versions whether Kelly bungalow should be treated as a designated temporary jail or special ward for Lalu’s treatment.

On being contacted IG (Jail) Virendra Bhushan said Kelly bungalow and Lalu Prasad are under care and protection of RIMS and Ranchi district administration.

“I don’t know from where this report flashed. And, if this is true then security guards on duty should have stopped animals being taken on the premise. Somebody was referring to me on the news that goats were returned,” he said. Public relation officer of RIMS Nitish M Paul Ekka did respond to repeated phone calls and text.

When contacted, senior party leader Smita Lakra said that she is not aware that Ansari has arranged sacrificial goats.
