Man arrested for wrong info on FB

Thursday, 09 April 2020 | PNS | ANGUL

Despite the Government’s strict warnings against rumour-mongering, a 30-year-old man was arrested by the Talcher police on Wednesday for sharing false information about the COVID-19 lockdown on social media.

Abhinash Samantray of Hakimpada had shared an old photo of Maa Hingula Yatra claiming that people in large numbers had gathered to witness the annual religious festival violating the lockdown norms.

Acting on a complaint lodged by the Maa Hingula Temple Trust, police verified the photo and later found it to be an old one from last year. The cops later arrested the accused.

Meanwhile, the district administration has ordered devotees not to visit the temple to adhere to the lockdown norms and, instead, offer prayer to the goddess from their respective homes.
