A 40-year-old male coronavirus patient allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in a Covid care centre in Chhattisgarh’s Janjgir-Champa district on Thursday, police said.
The man was found hanging from the ventilation grill in the toilet of the centre, set up at a school, in Janjgir town in the morning, said Lakhesh Kevat, the Station House Officer of Kotwali police station.
Janjgir-Champa is located 250 km away from Raipur.
The deceased, a native of Jamgahan village in Dabhra development block, had recently returned from Gujarat to his village, Kevat said.
After testing positive for Covid-19, he was admitted at the centre on August 4. When he did not come out of the toilet after a long time, the hospital staff broke the door open and found him hanging, he said.
The exact reason that prompted him to kill himself was not known, the police said.
